Carpet maker sales down due to weaker demand

Carpet manufacturer G-Tuft has reported a slight decline in turnover as sales remained just above £30m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 1 April 2023, total sales fell 9% to £30.1m from £33.3m in 2022.

Pre-tax losses resulted at £398,000, down from a profit of £2,000 recorded the previous year.

G-Tuft, which primarily manufactures wool based carpets for UK brands of parent company Victoria PLC, said: “The reduction is primarily driven by a difficult year in the wider UK flooring market.

“This manifests itself in the sales volumes of G-Tuft. Internal, and external carpet brands demand have reduced during the 12 months. The site in Dewsbury is a vital part of the wider group’s strategy and is subject to continuous investment and expansion.”
