BFM strengthens retailer membership with new Board appointment

British Furniture Manufacturers (BFM) has announced the appointment of James Heese, Commercial Director at ScS, as a new Board member, with a remit to support its new retail membership category.

James will provide valued insight to help the BFM develop its offer to members in this emerging area. ScS was among the first major retailers to join the BFM’s Approved Retailer category, along with Furniture Village.

Launched at the January Furniture Show 2023, the new section of membership welcomes retailers into the organisation who are committed to selling and promoting British made goods and is open to retailers across the UK.

James Heese said: “ScS was delighted to be an inaugural retail member of the BFM and we are now keen to play an active role within the association. As a Board member, I’ll be particularly keen to work across the industry to support the development of new talent and career paths in the industry.

“That will include support for the BFM’s new Future of Furniture initiative, which highlights the career opportunities in our sector, as well as work in sustainability. Collectively we can work together to promote the industry and UK manufacturing.”

Nick Garratt, BFM Chair, said: “James’ appointment to the Board reflects BFM’s commitment to the Approved Retailer membership programme. We are developing a framework that allows manufacturers and retailers to work together to promote the value of buying British goods.”
