Another negative week for homewares

Homeware sales declined on the high street again, marking a fourth negative week.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose by 17.47% for the week ending 8 May 2022.

Total Homeware LFLs fell by 24.66% this week, with in store sales down by 15.14% from a massive base of +25,963.05% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, the BDO said: “This week saw a good deal of cloud across the UK with isolated showers in some places, but also witnessed some spells of sunshine and mild temperatures in the mid-teens. The same week last year saw sunny conditions with high temperatures alongside intermittent rain and cloud cover.”

High street footfall continued an upward trend with an increase of +43.3%, similar with shopping centres which saw a footfall growth of +18.4%. In contrast, footfall in retail parks trended downwards, slipping by -1.3% this week.
