Bed and mattress retailer The Sleep Haven has entered administration with all four stores continuing to trade as it begins to wind down operations.
Mark Ranson and Adrian Dante from Opus Restructuring & Insolvency were appointed as Joint Administrators of The Sleep Haven Limited on 7 August 2025.
The Sleep Haven was established in June 2023 by a group of four senior executives with combined experience of more than a century in the beds and mattresses retail market. The executives had provided the capital to set up the business out of their own resources. It operates from four locations in Castleford, Warrington, Oswaldtwistle and Reddish.
All four sites will remain open and trading for a short time while the Administrators undertake a stock clearance sale to maximise funds for creditors. All 13 staff have been retained.
The Company had made considerable progress on building up a presence in its local market, but the ongoing cost of living crisis has inevitably meant that trading has been variable and some of the sites had yet to reach profitability. Unfortunately, bed purchases are mainly a discretionary spend for consumers, which can be deferred in tough times.
A further blow was the unexpected death of one of the founding group a few weeks ago, which has disrupted the management of the Company at what was already a difficult time. Ultimately, the remaining senior executives reluctantly concluded that the business could not continue and made the tough decision to call in Administrators. They and the staff are co-operating fully with the Administrators.
Administrator, Mark Ranson of Opus said: “It’s a tragedy that a business created with such optimism and which had become well-established so quickly has failed to survive its start-up phase. We will continue with the stock clearance campaign for as long as possible, but it can only be a matter of a few weeks at most.”
