Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has confirmed that two UK stores are set to close.
The first is the Plan and Order point store located at Stockport Merseyway Shopping Centre, which is expected to close on 16 June 2025.
The second is the Aintree Plan and Order Point, which is also expected to close on the same date and was the first site to test and trial the smaller store format in the UK back in 2022.
A number of Plan and Order points across the country, including stores in Dundee, Hull and York, will be adapted for customer demand and will include offering a small selection of home furnishing accessories.
Salma Azad, IKEA Area Manager, said: “Since opening, the Aintree and Stockport Plan and Order Points have helped us learn a lot about what customers want from this type of store. We’ve seen that people are looking for services like Click and Collect, being able to return items easily, and plan other solutions not just in the kitchen but in other areas of the home, such as bedrooms and living spaces. Due to limited space at our closing locations, we were unable to offer all of that.
“These insights are helping us shape future Plan and Order Points, including the ones opening in Dundee, Hull and York, so they better meet customer needs. While it’s never easy to close a store, this is part of making sure we’re investing in the right places to serve people in the best possible way.”
