Homeware high street sales rise double-digit again

Homeware sales rose double-digit on the high street for a second straight week.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales fell 2.69% for the week ending 27 July 2025.

Homewares total LFLs jumped by +11.47% from a weak base of -4.91% for the same week in 2024, signifying the category’s fourth consecutive positive week and second double-digit growth back-to-back.

Store homewares sales sprang up by +12.48% from a base of +0.13%, denoting the category’s second consecutive positive result and its highest growth since April, while non[1]store sales for homewares rose by +2.23% from a base of -7.45%, the category’s second consecutive positive outcome.

Total store LFL sales dipped by -1.27% from a base of +2.81% for the same week in 2024. Total non-store LFL sales slipped by -3.09% from a base of +3.79% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “This week’s total LFL sales result marks the category’s first negative outcome following three consecutive positive weeks, as both store and non-store results dropped, but largely due to weak online retail.

“Non-store fashion sales declined this week after nine straight positive weeks, while homewares saw gains in both store and non-store sales.

“This week started with overcast, showery and stormy conditions, before gradually returning to milder and more typical summer weather.

“During the same week last year, the UK weather was generally clear and warm with moderate temperatures and occasional light showers.”

Overall footfall declined by -0.8% as foot traffic decreased across all tracked categories, falling by -1.2% on high streets, while shopping centres experienced a -0.8% drop, and retail parks saw a dip of -0.2%.
