Homeware sales rose again on the high street for a seventh consecutive week.
According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 2.65% for the week ending 17 August 2025.
Homewares total LFLs climbed by +20.13% from a poor base of -4.23% for the same week in 2024, marking the category’s sixth consecutive positive week.
Store homewares sales jumped by +25.65%, easily offsetting a poor base of -3.22%, signifying the category’s fourth straight double-digit growth outcome and fifth consecutive positive result, while non-store sales for homewares dropped by -11.05% from a base of -5.26%.
Total store LFL sales increased by +3.51%, offsetting a negative base of -0.39% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales grew by +4.38% from a positive base of +1.60% for the same week last year.
Commenting on the results, BDO said: “Healthy fashion and homewares trade sustained total LFL sales within positive territory for a third consecutive week. Although lifestyle sales dipped in-store this week, the segment recorded the best outcome in online sales.
“The week had mixed weather conditions with some dry days interspersed with light showers, typical for a British summer. The same week last year was warmer and drier in the south, and cooler and wetter conditions in the north.”
Overall footfall fell by -0.9% this week, as footfall declined across the board. Foot traffic reduced by -1.8% in shopping centres, retail parks saw a decline of -1.4%, and high streets saw a -0.3% drop.
