The value of total furniture manufacturer sales has declined against an annual comparison, new data suggests.
According to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the total value of UK manufacturers’ product sales was £452.2 billion in 2024, a decrease of £14.5 billion (or by 3.1%) from £466.7 billion in 2023.
As for the manufacture of furniture, total sales were £7.2 billion, down 8.8% from £7.9 billion in 2023. This marked a second consecutive decline from sales of £8.1 billion in 2022 and the sixth highest sales in the last decade.

Within the data, total sales of the manufacture of office and shop furniture reached £1.1 billion, down from £1.2 billion, while sales of the manufacture of kitchen furniture also fell from £2.4 billion to £2.3 billion. The manufacture of other furniture, which includes upholstery, resulted at sales of £2.9 billion, down from £3.2 billion, while the manufacture of mattress sales stood at £808 million, down from £872 million.

As for volumes, which is measured in tonnes, estimates indicate that 53.1 million furniture items were manufactured in 2024, representing an increase from 45.7 million in 2023. However, this increase in volume was still lower than 2022’s output of 68 million. Against a decade ago, volumes registered 52 million in 2014.
