Irish furniture sales rise in May 2025

Irish furniture retail sales showed an annual and monthly growth in both volume and value.

According to the latest Retail Sales Index data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) for May 2025, furniture and lighting sales saw an annual volume growth of 10%. On a monthly comparison, sales rose 1.2%.

The value of furniture and lighting retail sales rose 1.5% month-on-month as well as increasing by 8.4% on an annual basis.

Department stores saw annual volume decline 4.2%, while month-on-month delivered a decline of 3.7%. As for the value, this fell 3.5% on a monthly basis, as well as down by 4.4% annually.

Overall, the monthly volume of Retail Sales was up by 0.5% in May 2025 and grew by 0.9% in the year when compared with May 2024.

The value of Retail Sales fell by 0.7% in the month and rose by 1.7% in the 12 months to May 2025.

The proportion of Retail Sales transacted online (from Irish registered companies) was 4.7% in May 2025 and 5.0% in April 2025, compared with 4.8% in May 2024.
