Homeware sales fell again on the high street, marking a third straight week of negative sales.
According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales fell 3.33% for the week ending 11 May 2025.
Homewares total LFLs fell by -3.73% from a base of +1.95% for the same week in 2024, denoting the category’s third consecutive negative result.
Store homewares sales jumped by +12.05% from a base of +3.98% for the same week last year, indicating the category’s first positive result after two poor outcomes back-to-back.
Total store LFL sales increased by +0.42% from a base of +2.46% for the same week in 2024. Total non-store LFL sales sank by -4.89% from a strong base of +10.58% for the same week last year.
Commenting on the results, BDO said: “This week’s result marks the second negative outcome for total LFL sales in the past three weeks due to a poor non-store sales performance.
“Lifestyle climbed into positive territory this week after two consecutive weeks of weak outcomes. This week’s weather had a dry start for most and was cloudy in places but grew warmer and sunnier by the week with temperatures reaching the twenties.
“The same week last year experienced similar weather as the UK enjoyed warm and sunny weather with high temperatures.”
Overall footfall decreased by -1.5% this week, mainly reflected in footfall results for the high street (-3.0%) and shopping centres (-0.5%). Retail park footfall saw a slight increase of +0.5%.
