Homewares retailer gets green light on new store plans

Fashion and home furnishings retailer Oliver Bonas has revealed plans to open a new store in Chester.

The retailer has submitted plans to Cheshire West and Chester Council, which has been approved, to open a new store on Bridge Street.

Oliver Bonas, which operates 80 stores across the UK and Ireland, has also recently submitted plans to open a new store in West Bridgford. The retailer has submitted a planning application to Rushcliffe Borough Council to change the use of the site at 22 Central Avenue from a financial services premises to a retail unit.

Supporting the Chester plans, the document stated: “The proposed design would introduce a more appropriately muted colour scheme and would remove the existing electronic display screens from the front windows, thereby slightly improving the character and appearance of the area, taking into account the significance of the heritage assets.

“It is considered that the proposal has demonstrated special regard to the desirability of preserving the listed building, its setting and the features of special architectural and historic interest that it possesses. It is further considered that the proposal would preserve and slightly enhance the character or appearance of the area, taking account of the significance of the heritage assets.”
