Contract furniture business returns to profit as sales rise 28%

Contract furniture design and manufacturing business, Boss Design, has reported a growth in sales as turnover surpassed £30m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2022, total sales rose 27.9% to £31m from £24.2m in 2021. Pre-tax profit resulted at £1m, significantly improving from its loss of £273,000 recorded the previous year.

UK sales rose 30.7% to £23.4m from £17.9m, while EU sales declined 46.2% to £807,000 from £1.5m. Revenues from North America jumped 149% to £4m from £1.6m, with sales in Asia dipping 10.3% to £2.6m from £2.9m.

Stated within its report, the company said: “Turnover growth was particularly strong in the UK and USA, but in Europe and Asia where recovery from COVID restrictions was slower, turnover continued to fall.

“The increased throughput and improved mix enabled margins to recover to pre-pandemic levels, whilst overhead growth was restrained.”

Looking ahead, the company added that trading performance has continued to improve, especially in North America and Asia, and expects to report a “significant profit improvement” against 2022.
