New store ramps up growth at independent retailer

Independent furniture retailer Stokers has reported a growth in turnover as sales surpassed £60m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 April 2022, total sales rose 34.4% to £63.2m from £47m in 2021.

Gross profit increased from £16.9m to £23.9m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £5.8m, up from £5.6m recorded against the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said that the year included its new Aylesbury store performance, where the business invested over £10m in the freehold, which has “contributed significantly to sales growth and profitability”.

Stokers continues to maintain a very strong balance sheet with cash reserves at £5.6m and net asset growth of £4.7m.
