Creditors of 21 furniture businesses owed almost £23m

In the latest Insolvency Digest, creditors of 21 furniture businesses entering liquidation or administration are expected to suffer a combined shortfall of £22.9m.

Adam Harris, of Mazars LLP, was appointed as administrator of mattress brand Dormeo UK Limited on 23 February 2023. The business owed the HMRC around £700,000, while unsecured creditors are estimated to be owed a combined sum of £7.8m. Customer orders not delivered to date of the administration appointment totalled £3m. It is understood that creditors could suffer an overall shortfall of around £15.9m.

James Sleight and Oliver Collinge, both of PKF GM, were appointed as joint administrators of furniture manufacturer Bluespot Furniture Limited on 20 January 2023. The business owed employee claims as preferential creditors a sum of £12,000, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets valuing £329,000. The other preferential creditor, the HMRC, is owed £331,000 and is expected to recoup the majority of this debt. As for unsecured creditors, total claims reached £1.2m, with a connected company, Bluespot Investments Limited owed £159,000. A further £268,000 is owed to employee redundancy claims, while £427,000 is owed to Funding Circle. It is understood that creditors will suffer a shortfall of almost £1.3m.

Tracy Taylor, of Abbey Taylor Limited, was appointed as liquidator of furniture wholesaler Furniture Imports Ltd on 13 February 2023. The business owed the HMRC almost £22,000, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £137,000. These included £41,000 owed to Lloyds Bank, a further £27,000 owed to the HMRC and £41,000 in trade claims. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £153,000.

Roderick Butcher, of Butcher Woods, was appointed as liquidator of furniture painting and upcycling business Claire’s Crafthouse Limited on 14 February 2023. The business owed the HMRC £47,000. Other creditors include Barclays Bank, owed £50,000, American Express, owed £8,000, and PayPal, owed almost £30,000. It is expected creditors will suffer a shortfall of £161,000.

Daniel Richardson and Edward Avery-Gee, both of CG&Co, Greg`s Building, was appointed as liquidator of carpet retailer Prestige Flooring (NW) Limited on 16 February 2023. The business owed the HMRC a sum of £23,800, while NatWest bank is owed £38,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of over £68,000.

Simon Barriball and Sandra McAlister, both of McAlister & Co Insolvency Practitioners, were appointed as joint liquidators of bespoke furniture business Fusion 10 Joinery Limited on 16 February 2023. The company owed employee claims of £5,000 as a preferential creditor, which is expected to be repaid from realised assets of £49,000. The second preferential creditor is the HMRC, owed £74,000. As for unsecured creditors, claims totalled £579,000, which includes an intercompany loan of £123,000. Lloyds Bank is owed £33,000, Bellawood Products is owed £72,000 and Stakehill Ltd is owed £217,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £609,000.

Simon Barriball and Helen Whitehouse, both of Company Liquidations Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of carpet retailer Luxe Flooring Ltd on 16 February 2023. The business owed unsecured creditors, which includes Likewise Flooring and Kellars, a collective sum of £19,500. Around £3,500 is understood to be available from realised assets, leaving a shortfall of £16,000.

Tauseef Rashid and Rehan Ahmed, both of Quantuma Advisory Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Modern Beds Limited on 20 February 2023. The business owed the HMRC £57,000, while its accountant is owed £600. It is expected creditors will suffer a shortfall of the entire amounts owed at £58,000.

Eileen Sale, of Sale Smith & Co. Limited, was appointed as liquidator of flooring retailer Surrey Woodworks Limited on 21 February 2023. The business owed the HMRC £4,000 as its only preferential creditor and is expected to be settled from realised assets valuing £85,000. Unsecured creditor claims totalled £137,000 with a further £25,000 owed to the HMRC. Other claims included over £60,000 owed to Lloyds Bank and £11,500 to Lendingcrowd Finance. Around £81,000 could be made available for some distributions, with creditors expecting a shortfall of £56,000.

Clive Morris, of Marshall Peters, was appointed as liquidator of specialised interior design business Rustic Plank Furniture Company Limited, trading as Global Interiors, on 21 February 2023. The HMRC is owed £108,000 as a preferential creditor, while unsecured creditors are owed a combined figure of £179,000. These include £49,000 to NatWest and £50,000 to Lloyds, as well as £48,000 to Grain & Grub Ltd as part of an intercompany loan. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £288,000.

Rikki Burton, of Anderson Brookes Insolvency Practitioners Limited, was appointed as liquidator of furniture delivery and installation specialist AMS INT Furniture Installations Ltd on 22 February 2023. The business owed the HMRC £440,000 as well as other trade claims valuing £20,000. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £456,000.

Andrew Ryder, of JT Maxwell Ltd, was appointed as liquidator of furniture business Unto This Last Limited on 23 February 2023. Employee claims totalled £2,400, which are expected to be repaid from realised assets of £12,500. The HMRC is owed a sum of £190,000. As for unsecured creditors, total claims valued £444,000 with director’s being owed £254,000. Other claims included a further £29,000 owed to employees and £159,000 to the trade. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £625,000.

Gerald Irwin, of Irwin Insolvency, was appointed as liquidator of interiors business DH Fitters Limited, on 24 February 2023. The business owed the HMRC £82,000 as a preferential creditor. Unsecured creditors are owed almost £56,000, with the majority of £55,000 owed to further HMRC claims. A shortfall of £133,000 is expected.

Gareth Self, of Restart BTi, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer Mediterranean Exotic Interiors Limited, trading as Crown French Furniture, on 27 February 2023. The HMRC is owed £384,000 as a preferential creditor, while employees are owed almost £8,000, with the latter expected to be repaid from £10,000 of realised assets. Unsecured creditors include a further 10 employee claims owed £57,000, £285,000 owed to banks and £29,000 owed to the HMRC. Trade claims totalled £152,000. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £934,000.

Sarah Cook and Miles Needham, both of FRP Advisory Trading Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of kitchen retailer Ebberns Kitchen Centre (Handmade) Ltd on 20 December 2022. The business owed the HMRC £77,000 as a preferential creditor, while unsecured creditors included £50,000 owed to Barclays Bank and £15,000 owed to Travis Properties. It is expected that creditors will suffer a total shortfall of £222,000.

Martin Buttriss and Carolynn Best, both of Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Odyssey Furniture Limited, trading as Gattsbys Furniture, on 27 February 2023. Preferential employee claims totalled £1,200, which are expected to be repaid from realised assets of £5,500. The HMRC is owed £6,500, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £282,000, including a further sum of £38,000 owed to five employees. A director’s loan is owed £131,000, while its landlord and Lloyd’s bank are owed respective sums of £54,000 and £51,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £285,000.

Kelly Burton and Gemma Louise Roberts, both of Wilson Field Ltd, were appointed as joint liquidators of kitchen furniture manufacturer Rivenell 4 Limited, trading as Trend Transformations, on 28 February 2023. The business owed the HMRC over £61,000 as a preferential creditor, which is expected to be repaid some distribution from realised assets valuing £19,800. Unsecured creditors include HSBC bank, owed £73,000, and the Rivenell Pension Fund, owed £13,000. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £250,000.

Gareth Rusling and Philip Nunney, both of Begbies Traynor (SY) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Domus Interiors (Morpeth) Limited on 2 March 2023. The business owed the HMRC over £148,000 as a preferential creditor, which is expected to be repaid some distribution from realised assets valuing £24,000, alongside employee claims of £3,000. Unsecured creditors are owed a combined total of £820,000, which includes £102,000 owed to seven consumer claims, £201,000 to the trade, £89,000 to Llyod’s bank and £329,000 in a director’s loans. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £947,000.

Steven Ross and Allan Kelly, both of FRP Advisory Trading Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture retailer Collingwood Sofas Ltd on 2 March 2023. The business owed the HMRC over £10,000 as a preferential creditor, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £71,000. These included £29,000 owed to NatWest bank, £9,000 in loans, £23,000 to employees and £8,500 to the trade. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £82,000.

Mark Bowen, of MB Insolvency, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer Dovetails Pine Centre Limited, trading as Dovetails Pine, on 3 March 2023. The business owed the HMRC over £2,600 as a preferential creditor, while unsecured creditor claims totalled £63,000. These included £15,000 owed to a director’s loan, £24,000 owed to one employee and £24,000 owed to the trade. Creditors are expected to suffer a shortfall of £66,000.

John Hedger, of Seneca IP Limited, was appointed as liquidator of upholstery and curtain making specialists Kuhn Interiors Ltd on 2 March 2023. The business owed the HMRC over £233,000, while unsecured creditors are owed a combined figure of £159,000. These included a further £80,000 owed to the HMRC, £54,000 owed to HSBC bank and £24,000 owed to connected company Kuhn Upholstery Limited. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £357,000.
