A bunkbed, bed frame and a mattress have been recalled over entrapment and fire safety risks.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards issued a recall on the Noah Bunkbed, Trundle Bed and Matsen Mattress, sold by online business Children Beds Home Ltd, after presenting risks of fire and entrapment.
The bunk bed and trundle bed pose a risk of entrapment due to the size of accessible gaps, while the mattress poses a risk of fire as it failed to meet flammability requirements.
All three products originated from Poland and are described as ‘A white, wooden bunk bed with trundle under bed and mattress’.
A statement on each product declaring the risk said: “The bunk bed and trundle bed pose a risk of entrapment due to the size of accessible gaps, and do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
“The mattress poses a risk of fire as it does not meet the requirements of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988.
“The local authority has required that all products are recalled from end users. If you have any of these products, please stop using them immediately.”

Noah Bunkbed
“The product presents a serious risk of entrapment due to the size of multiple gaps and openings. Multiple parts of the bed had gaps that exceeded the specified maximum, including the bed base, where the gaps between the slats we’re 80mm, more than the maximum of 75mm. There was also found to be vertical protruding parts exceeding the maximum specified height at all four corner post intersections. Additionally, improvements are required to the overall strength of the bed structure as, during testing, the top bunk detached from the bottom bunk, resulting in a fracture to one of the screws that was securing the ladder. Some of the required information for use and warnings were not present.”

Trundle Bed
“The product presents a risk of entrapment as the gaps between the slats on the base measured between 78mm and 100mm, exceeding the specified maximum of 75mm. Most slats are not screwed in place, so can freely move and slide. Each corner of the bed has a protrusion measuring 20mm in height, double the maximum.”

Matsen Mattress
“The product presents a serious risk of fire as the polyurethane foam slab from the mattress fails to meet flammability requirements. Should the mattress come into contact with a naked flame, it would catch fire and continue to burn.”
